The business magazine Trends recently published a special edition on the 'New Way of Working'. This edition featured an interview with Jeroen Janss, Head of Talents & Rewards, in which he presented Towers Watson’s view on the “New Way of Working” and explained why it is changing large and small Belgian companies alike:

  • Many Belgian companies are using the difficult economic environment to focus on core strengths. This brings clarity about where the company is heading and what it expects from people. Importantly, this helps companies to identify the talent required to achieve the company objectives.
  • Leading companies are focusing on key talent and define a clear “deal”. This deal is the experience offered by an employer in exchange for the productivity and performance of an employee. Leading companies use this deal to create consistency for the entire employee experience (recruitment, training, performance management, mobility, etc.) and in this way ensure greater ability to attract, retain and engage key talent.
  • The “deal” empowers people to achieve results in the most effective way. This deal is specific to the company and reflects the specific expectations of the key talent pool. Increasingly, this deal is based on the principles of the New Way of Working and focuses on leadership, autonomy and change.

Towers Watson’s holistic approach to the New Way of Working is based on vast research in the field of Talent Management and is reflected in the recent book Transformative HR.

Transformative HR presents a breakthrough approach for managing today’s complex HR and Talent Management issues. Grounded in five principles of evidence based change and enriched with case studies from some of the world’s most exciting organisations, Transformative HR provides HR leaders with a practical blueprint for embedding analytical discipline, systems thinking and thoughtful change management into the management of their talent.
