On September 30, 2010, federal legislation was introduced, A Second Act to Implement Certain Provisions of the Budget Tabled in Parliament on March 4, 2010 and Other Measures (bill C-47), which, if passed, will amend the Income Tax Act to include Employee Life and Health Trusts (ELHTs) and will apply retroactively to all qualifying trusts created after 2009. November 2010
In 2009, following the mandated triennial review of the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), the federal government amended the CPP Act as part of the Economic Recovery Act, S.C. 2009 c. 31. The amendments received Royal Assent on December 15, 2009 but were not proclaimed into force until recently. The changes will generally only take effect for new claimants who commence retirement benefits in 2012. This information is of interest to all Canadian employers, particularly those with retirement savings arrangements that are integrated with the Canada and Quebec Pension Plans (C/QPP). September 2010

Manitoba has announced that it is finalizing the long-awaited reform of its pension legislation and regulations.
