Asian companies are very active in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) – they are increasingly going down this route to accelerate growth. Many market factors are driving this trend. In many Asian countries, there aren’t many companies left to buy domestically. If you’re a South Korean company that represents 41 per cent of the country’s gross domestic product, it’s hard to find anything that isn’t already yours. The nature of the market is such that, sooner or later, you’ll have to look across borders if you want to grow.
