Pension policy throughout Europe is in the spotlight.
Overarching the policy-making within each European country, the policy machinery of the European Union is at work. In the wake of the continuing economic crisis, greater emphasis is on adequate, sustainable and secure pension provision for both the current and future generations. Getting the balance right is tricky and, in relation to works-based pension recommendations under consideration by the European Union are contentious. There is a risk that too great an emphasis on security will undermine sponsors’ willingness to provide benefits voluntarily.
