The 2014 DC Plan Sponsor Survey Report includes responses from 457 large and midsize U.S. companies that sponsor a 401(k) or 403(b) plan. It summarizes the design, investments, communication approaches and fee practices in their programs.

We also asked organizations about their viewpoints on retirement readiness, or how ready their employees will be to retire at a reasonable age. Our results show:

Automatic enrollment in DC plans is commonplace, but companies are missing opportunities to increase its value by adding automatic deferral increases.

Most respondents do not mandate automatic escalation

Most organizations are requiring participants to pay direct fees.

The majority of employers pass direct fees to participants

Improving communication and adding new approaches will be top priorities in the next two to three years.

Employers expect to increase employee communication
